How do I wire a commercial grade network in a small office?
I am working in an office building and they've asked me to wire a network. The wires from the rooms are all run to a central rear room that has them hanging down from the ceiling without RJ-45 jacks on the ends. There are just wires. But furthermore, I know I need to wire them to a hub. How exactly would I do all of that?
Ok - you really should hire someone to do this - - but here goes. Buy the ends and a crimper. Buy an Ethernet hub that has more ports than your number of wires - cheap ones are fine - Linksys is good. Read this http://www.aptcommunications.com/ncode.htm and follow the 10baseT instructions. Now try some crimping on a couple of wires that are not in the wall. Hook two computers with these wires into the hub. Using the first computer, see if you can 'see' the second one in Network Neighborhood or My Network Places (use Help if you don't know what to do here). Once you figure out how to wire properly, wire all the ends and plug them all into the hub. You can do it if you try!
