Using one air filter element?

Cr250, I got a UNI filter for it, and wondered if I could just use the inside-element? It's the kind that has two foam "elements" one inside the other, there's no hard filter thing. Why is there two? And why can't I use just one?

There are two for a reason -
The outer surface collects the most dirt and when cleaning a one-stage filter some of that dirt can become trapped on the interior. With a two-stage filter one would clean the big sh!t off on the outer without contaminating the interior and than clean the inner filter with much less debris being subject to being sucked into fuel chamber.
If you want to ruin a perfectly good two-stage filter be my quest!
