Water Heater 101: Types of Water Heating Systems
One of the ways of ensuring the safety of water for consumption is through using water heating systems. These water heating systems, including
stack economizer
, can produce not only clean water, but also electricity for both residential and commercial areas. Without water heaters, sanitation, production, and constructions will be impossible.
A typical water heater uses a thermodynamic process of heating water above its initial temperature. A water heater that uses a burner with nitrous-oxide emissions of only 10 nanograms per Joule is generally referred to as ultra low now or simply
low nox water heater
. Below are the different types of water heaters.
Storage Water Heater
Storage water heaters are preferred by many industries and homes as it can perform better than conventional models. A typical energy-efficient water heater may have several features such as extra tank insulation for better heat retention, Heat Exchanger for transferring more heat, and factory-installed heat traps for prevention of unwanted water flow from the tank. Heating source for storage water heaters can be gas, electricity, or oil.
Tankless Water Heater
Tankless water heaters only heats water when needed, thus eliminating loss of heat in tank walls and pipes. Tankless water heaters use either a gas burner or an electric element that heats the flowing water. It is usually installed near the point of use such as under a kitchen sink and can be used as supplement to another type of water heater.
Integrated Space or Sater Water Heater
Integrated space water heater uses a single boiler that requires only one combustion burner and one vent. Most integrated space water heaters are built with insulated external storage tank and low-mass boiler to heat the water which will pass through a fan coil similar to a car radiator. Sater water heaters, however, are less efficient during warmer seasons.
Solar Water Heater
This uses the sun’s energy as a heat source. It has two types: active uses either indirect system that involves pumping of non-freezing, heat-transferring liquid through collectors or direct system that circulate water from the home through a collector and then back into the home. The passive type allows natural circulation of water.
Heat Pump Water Heater
This is similar to a refrigerator working in reverse. Heat pump water heater or HPWH works by taking the heat from surrounding air or ground and transferring it to the water in an enclosed tank. Using a HPWH is proven to be cost-effective, because these water heaters do not require an outside fuel source to heat the water, unlike using
stack economizer
. HPWHs can also be used to cool and dehumidify an area while heating water.
2000 Grand Am Heater sounds like an airplane engine?
I turn on my car and if I turn the heater above the lowest setting the car actually vibrates so loud that it shakes the car. Any ideas?
The blower might be broken, or something stuck in it. Take a look under your passenger seat footwell... usually the blowers are up there somewhere.
