New Hot Water heater pilot wont light?
We just installed a new hot water heater. My husband had to replace the plumbing around the hot water heater, and during the soldering he had to drain the line a few times and water sprayed onto the floor and possibly got the pilot light area damp/wet. My husband was able to light the pilot light yesterday and today a couple of times, but it won't STAY lit. Does anyone know what could be going on? Or do we just wait until it dries out and try again? Only knowledgable answers please.
Oh I'm sure, It has an ignitor, and states in the PILOT light instructions. Not ALL new hot water heaters are pilotless.
Since you stated that he has lit the pilot a couple of times, then it's not a electric pilot. Only a couple of things that it can be. First, check to see if the thermocouple (Wire looking thing) is in the middle of the flame. You might have moved it drying up the water. If it is, then you have a bad gas valve. Did he already have the valve hooked up when the water was leaking down? If not, he may have gotten water into it or the gas line. If that's the case, it should work if you take it back off and dry it out.
