Dog pregnancy?
I recently rescued a very tiny chihuahua very, very tiny might I add. She was rescued as a dog at a puppy mill, malnourished and rather the "runt"... or perhaps not being fed stunted her growth significantly. She is a year old, weighs 1 pound and five ounces, and none the less is pregnant with who knows what. I am worried for her because she is very small, but it just seems to late to abort the puppies. She was given to me because I breed dogs, yet I never bred chihuahuas and would like some advice from an outside view. My vet said she is going to defiantly need a c-section and she is much to far in the pregnancy to do anything but let her have the puppies. Do you think she can survive something so big for a 1 pound chihuahua? I wish these people would have spayed the poor little thing ; any advice?
if she is to far then the vet should be able to tell you when she is due and set up teh c-section for a about 5 days before. I won't even breed anything under 3 pounds and een then very seldom.
when they do a c-section tell tehm you want her spayed immediatley.
I did have a friend who bred her 2 pound female and she nearly lost the dog, ended up in intensive care form all the blood loss.

I would give hr vitamins and keep her on puppy food to try to give her as much extra nutrition.
Also due to the sugar problems of chis let me sugest getiing Karo syrup and put a teaspoon of syrup in a pint of water and give this to her as her regular drinking water at all times.
Also purchase nutrical and have on hand for any sudden sugar drops.
